I’m currently seeking an investor who wants to invest in an opportunity with a difference. That opportunity is me.
I’m 34 years old, an IT Developer with numerous years in the field, and I earn a good salary. In 2016 I came out as transgender and began a journey that forever changed my life. As much as I would like to say that journey has been life changing, however, it has unfortunately been stunted repeatedly by one major problem: the cost.
As I’m sure you can imagine, the medical cost of transition is not cheap. It’s been two years since I began my transition and I’ve already spent several thousand pounds on various things, and I’ve yet to even scratch the surface of the total cost. That is why I created this site, as I’m looking for someone who’ll help me cover those costs, and in exchange for the money up front I’ll reimburse that individual with interest.
What am I offering
I estimate that the total cost of transition in my case will be more than £85,000. You’ll find a breakdown of exactly what that money will be spent on below, however there are additional costs involved as well. I get 20 days “sick pay” each year, and 24 days paid holiday. However, the time taken to recover from major surgery could well exceed that number. As a result, taking into account money to cover my salary if I have to take time off work as unpaid leave to recover, along with clearing a few debts, I’m looking for a sum of £100,000.
That is an eye-watering amount of money, however I believe that I can pay this money back in 15 years (180 months). This could be paid back in one lump sum or, preferably, 180 monthly payments of approximately £555.56pm.
However, as I’m well aware that there are few people in the world who’d want to lend someone that amount of money over that period of time without getting something in return, I’m happy to extend that repayment period to 20 years (240 months), repaying a total of £133,333.33. That is a return on initial investment of 33.3% over that period.
Why do I need the money?
The NHS offers very little support for individuals looking to transition. For male-to-female transition the only real support of significant value is gender confirmation surgery. To get this, you have to meet with various specialists and doctors, but the waiting lists are long. I’ve been waiting over two years now since I first asked my doctor for a referral and I’ve only received one NHS appointment in that time.
What the NHS (in England, although it varies in other countries within the UK) does not offer is any further support with any other surgeries. From various consultations I’ve had over the past two years I would like to pursue the following:
- Facial & Body Hair Removal Treatments
- Gender Confirmation Surgery
- Breast Augmentation Surgery
- Facial Feminisation Surgery
- Gender Body Feminisation
- Thyroid Reduction & Voice Feminisation Surgery
The total combined costs of those surgeries, plus the clearing of a few debts I have accrued in the last two years to pay for hormone treatment, voice augmentation therapy and facial hair removal treatments, along with the aforementioned unpaid holiday for recovery time after surgery, I estimate to be around £100,000.
Why not self-fund?
The primary reason I don’t want to self-fund by saving up money each month and getting shorter term bank loans to cover the costs of surgeries, is simply the time involved. Even saving up at £500 a month, it would take me more than 4 years to cover the cost of one of these major surgeries alone, plus the additional money I’d need to save to pay my bills during the recovery period. By doing this I would be close to 40 before I could realistically afford to have the first major surgery, and a further 3-4 years after that before I could afford another.
By going through this process, I would be in my late 40s by the time I’ve completed my transition completely. By waiting that long I’ll be older, thus I will be a less suitable candidate for surgery, recovery from each operation will take longer, and I won’t be completing my transition and able to move on with my life until my late 40s. By going this route, I could theoretically be completed with all surgeries and recovery before my 40th birthday, allowing me to move on with the rest of my life.
How else could I raise the money?
I could try crowd-funding options to raise the money, but to be honest that isn’t something that I necessarily want to do. I don’t consider myself a ‘charity case’ and I’m not seeking charity. Instead I wanted to reimburse anyone who’d be willing to lend me the money.
Besides crowd-funding, the only other option I have available to me is to save the money myself. I don’t come from a wealthy family (my mother lived paycheque to paycheque while raising me and continues to do so today) and I have no relatives that I can rely on for help. This is something I very much have to do on my own, and thus I’m hoping that there is an individual out there who’ll help me.
I can offer more than money
Along with my offer above to repay all money loaned to me to complete this journey, I’m also happy to talk openly about this whole process, and the support of any individual(s) who are able to help me. If you’d like to view this as a PR opportunity, I’d be happy to treat it as such. If you’d rather your name were not linked to this in any way, I’m equally as happy never to mention to anyone who the individual is who helps me fund this journey. The power is completely in your hands.
